What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Editorial Director, you’ll be largely responsible for the day-to-day processing of the titles on HCG’s Enid Blyton publishing programme (typically around 8 new titles per year, plus 15 reissues/new editions, all in print, audio and ebook). This includes copy-editing, proofreading, applying editorial guidelines, writing cover copy and metadata entry. You’ll also be generating and researching ideas for new Blyton publishing, compiling story anthologies and being an enthusiastic advocate for this author and her brand, within Hachette and externally.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for someone with excellent desk editorial skills, who is passionate about children’s fiction, well organised, good at prioritising and has a solid understanding of publishing schedules. You should have at least two years’ experience as an editorial assistant or similar and be ready for a move up to a more demanding editorial role. You’ll be enthusiastic about working on a brand with a fantastic heritage and keen to learn about how it fits into today’s competitive children’s book market.
What we offer
This is a great opportunity for someone committed to a career in children’s editorial. You’ll get plenty of hands-on experience as one of only two people handling all the in-house editorial work on Enid Blyton for HCG. You’ll also be part of a wider talented team of children’s editors working on young and illustrated fiction. The role is based in our Central London office and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Hachette employs people on the basis of their abilities. We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds.
