Assistant Management Accountant (12 month FTC)

What you’ll be doing

  • Playing a key role in the preparation and production of monthly management accounts
  • Completion of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assisting in the delivery of forecasting and budgeting requirements
  • Working closely with the Senior Management Accountant and Management Accountants to ensure that FDs and Finance Business Partners support requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner
  • Performing detailed stock reviews to ensure that books are accurately costed
  • Acting as main point for queries from the central purchase ledger team
  • Performing regular cost centre reviews and tracking progress against budget
  • Performing detailed provision calculations for stock and returns
  • Reporting on overheads
  • Tracking of Marketing, Publicity and Customer Promotional spends and liaising with divisional heads
  • Production of title P&Ls for divisional imprint reviews
  • Monthly calculation of overhead prepayments and accruals
  • Ad hoc tasks as required by the business and finance teams
  • Coding and processing of invoices

Who we are looking for

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Good attention to detail
  • Good spreadsheet skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems and have a flexible approach

Experience:

  • Junior management accounting role – graduate/one year experience
  • Familiarity with accounting systems preferable (SAP)

Qualifications:

  • A part-qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/AAT or equivalent) or looking to start studying

The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.

Who we are and what we do

The Hachette UK Management Accounts team supports 11 publishing teams based in the UK and Ireland. The team is led by the Head of Management Accounts and has the responsibility to produce the Management Accounts and reporting packs for these 11 divisions. The management accountant team will also be responsible for ensuring that the more transactional publishing focused general ledger accounts are kept up to date, including stock and cost accounting, and tracking marketing and publicity spends.
