Commissioning Editor, Hodder & Stoughton

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Who we are and what we do

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commissioning Editor to join the Hodder Fiction team. Hodder is one of the most successful commercial imprints in the UK and the home of some of the biggest names in fiction including worldwide bestsellers such as John Grisham, Stephen King, Jodi Picoult, David Nicholls and Peter Robinson.

What you’ll be doing

Based at Carmelite House in Blackfriars, London and reporting to the SFF Publisher, the Commissioning Editor will have a particular focus on young adult speculative fiction to augment our already extremely successful YA crossover publishing, which includes such bestselling authors as Becky Chambers, Pierce Brown, Laini Taylor and Stephanie Garber. The successful candidate will take on a number of existing authors, acquire new authors for the list and manage every aspect of the editorial role for their titles, including working on scripts, briefing covers, writing copy, monitoring and maximising the impact of metadata, being heavily involved in our unique SFF social media platform, Hodderscape, attending genre conventions and working closely with staff in all other departments to promulgate our SFF publishing.

Who we’re looking for

This role is ideal for those who love young, diverse, ground-breaking speculative fiction and who read intensely in that field. We are looking for someone who knows the readership intimately and will communicate their passion for this genre to their colleagues and the market. You will have previous experience of editing and project-managing within a trade publishing house and will need to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects to deadlines.

What we offer

We offer a vibrant, fun and creative environment within an enthusiastic and creative team. As part of Hachette, you will have access to competitive benefits, an extensive training library and development schemes such as mentoring.

Our Commitment

Hachette employs people on the basis of their abilities. We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds.

If you are shortlisted and need us to make any adjustments to help you attend for interview, please let us know.
