Commissioning Editor or Senior Commissioning Editor, Sceptre - Hodder & Stoughton
What you’ll be doing
We are looking to appoint a commissioning editor or senior commissioning editor – the role will depend on experience – to join the Sceptre’s small team of editors. We are passionate about literature and dedicated to publishing our books and authors to the highest standards. Reporting to the Publishing Director, you will be responsible for acquiring principally reading group fiction.

We’re looking for a talented and creative individual to join our friendly and innovative team. You will be an enthusiastic champion of your books from conception through to publication and beyond – collaborating closely with marketing, publicity, sales and rights. This is an exciting, varied and highly creative role for someone with a passion for books in the reading group area of the market and ideas about how to expand it.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be creatively and commercially savvy
- Be creative, with a proven record of successful ideas-generation
- Will keep close tabs on industry, social media and market trends and aim to be ahead of the curve
- Have proven success in this area
- Have strong relationships with industry contacts
- Have the ability to work under pressure
- Be strategically focused
- Have strong editorial skills and be digitally-minded

This role can be based at our London office, or at any of our new regional offices in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield or Bristol, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
