Hachette Children’s Group (HCG) is one of the largest children’s publishers in the UK, with an excellent track record in creating bestselling and award-winning books for children.  The Group aims to cater for every child, with baby and pre-school books, picture books, gift, fiction, non-fiction, series fiction, books for the school and library market and licensed publishing and comprises the imprints Hodder Children’s Books, Orchard Books, Orion Children’s Books, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Quercus Children’s Books, Pat-a-Cake, Wren & Rook, Franklin Watts and Wayland Books.

What you’ll be doing

An exciting and uniquely varied opportunity has arisen for a highly creative and organised designer to work across multiple areas of the Hachette Children’s Group. The role will involve creating covers and interiors for children of all ages, taking concepts through to final design, sourcing and commissioning illustrators. 

Key duties:

  • Designing books (covers and interiors), and occasional marketing material; 
  • Managing scheduling of titles into production, meeting budgets and deadlines;
  • Working closely with the editors and Art Directors in the development of new and existing titles, and taking books from concept through to print ready files

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a versatile designer who will enjoy being innovative on our series fiction and in-house creation list as much as working on non-fiction and licensing. The ideal candidate will have creative flair, energy, and a demonstrable passion for making fantastically commercial books. They will have the ability to work effectively across departments, prioritise workloads and collaborate with agents, authors and artists.

  • Proven design experience

This is an exciting opportunity for a junior designer who is ready to take the next step up, or a middleweight designer looking for new opportunities. The role is based in our London office on Victoria Embankment.
