Editorial Director, Quercus (Fixed Term Contract)

What you’ll be doing

Our Non-Fiction Publishing Director is taking parental leave, and we are looking for someone to hit the ground running – commissioning new titles while also taking ownership of a selection of her titles. Reporting to the Publisher, you will have a track-record of acquiring successful titles, ideally in health, lifestyle and popular culture.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with lots of energy and focus, who lives and breathes popular culture, who is bursting with ideas and who has a clear understanding of the market and where the zeitgeist is headed. A global mindset outlook will also be an asset, especially when it comes to health trends that come from the US.

What we offer

Our staff are our greatest asset and our benefits reflect this. In addition to 25 days annual leave per year + bank holidays, we have an extensive list of benefits that include: a wide-ranging training library, development programmes including mentoring, Cycle to Work vouchers, eye care vouchers, up to 70% off book purchases, a charity book shelf, 2 volunteer days per year to use at your charity of choice, many employee networks to join, delicious subsidized canteen food, summer hours (finishing at 1pm on Fridays during the summer months!), season ticket loans, rent deposit loans, generous pension schemes and much more!

This role can be based at our London office, or at any of our new regional offices in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield or Bristol, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.

Who we are and what we do

Named Small Publisher of the Year and Publisher of the year in its first decade in business, Quercus has quickly built a reputation as one of the UK’s most vibrant, creative publishing houses. Home to bestsellers from The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck by Sarah Knight to Stories for Boys Who Dare to be Different by Ben Brooks, and from Broken Greek by Pete Paphides to Before & Laughter by Jimmy Carr, our Non-Fiction list is deliberately varied, carefully curated and always exciting.
