Management Accountant

What you’ll be doing

  • Key role in the preparation and production of monthly management accounts
  • Completion of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assisting in the delivery of forecasting and budgeting requirements
  • Working closely with the Head of Management Accounts and other members of the management accountant team to ensure that FDs and Finance Business Partners’ support requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner
  • Oversee work on print costings, ensuring the technical completion of the accounting entries is performed monthly
  • Calculation of monthly royalty accruals
  • Production of imprint review data for the Divisional FDs and Finance Business Partners
  • Monthly calculation of WIP and amortisations to be charged to the P&L.
  • Reviewing the stock and returns calculations
  • Overhead review including accruals and prepayments and liaising with divisional Finance Business Partners to ensure accruals are accurate
  • Work with Head of Management Accounts to improve efficiency of month end and other financial processes
  • Liaising with Hachette Group Finance to answer queries
  • Explaining workings to the auditors
  • Ad hoc tasks as required by the business and finance teams

Who we are looking for

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Understanding of reconciliations, accounting principles and double-entry
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good spreadsheet skills
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Effective communication skills with financial and non-financial colleagues
  • Ability to solve problems and have a flexible approach

Experience:

  • Previous management accounting Experience
  • Familiarity with accounting systems particularly SAP
  • Prior knowledge of the publishing industry is preferable

Qualifications:

  • A qualified or part-qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/AAT or equivalent) with commercial experience

The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.

Who we are and what we do

Due to continued growth, we're looking for two Management Accountants to join the team. One of the roles is on a permanent basis and the other is on a years' fixed term contract.

The Hachette UK Management Accounts team supports 11 publishing teams based in the UK and Ireland. The team is led by the Head of Management Accounts and has the responsibility to produce the Management Accounts and reporting packs for these 11 divisions. The management accountant team will also be responsible for ensuring that the more transactional publishing focused general ledger accounts are kept up to date, including stock and cost accounting, as well as tracking marketing and publicity spends and other ad-hoc reporting.
