Senior Rights Manager, HHJQ

What you’ll be doing

The Senior Rights Manager will be responsible for handling the sale of translation (both in direct and co-agented territories) and serial rights in John Murray Press trade titles (John Murray, Two Roads, Basic Books UK), Hodder Studio titles and co-agented territories for Hodder & Stoughton. You will be working with a variety of brand name authors across these lists and will work with rights colleagues and editorial teams at all stages of the acquisitions process, ensuring that we acquire and exploit the best possible range of rights for our authors, help drive the development of rights-led acquisitions and work with publishers and customers across the world to maximise the value of those rights for our authors. 

Who we are looking for

You are likely to have excellent relationships in different rights territories and will help develop and exploit commercial opportunities in all these markets.

You will already have a successful career in rights selling with excellent negotiation and communication skills and have experience selling across both literary and commercial fiction and non-fiction lists. You will build strong relationships with clients, agents and authors and work closely with colleagues in house to provide feedback to editors for new books acquisitions. The successful candidate will report to the Rights Director.

The role will begin working from home due to ongoing Covid19 restrictions, but once normality resumes this role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House. with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.

Who we are and what we do

Due to an internal promotion an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Rights Department at Hodder & Stoughton, Headline, John Murray Press and Quercus. The Rights Department is a team of ten people, and we handle a huge variety of rights across a wide range of genres from US and translation through to film and television and we are defined by both our focus on budgets as well as strong emphasis on author and customer care.
